The Essence of the Nurse…

Several years ago, my friend and cottage neighbour Liz Lindsay, who was always a good sport, humoured me with a photo idea I wanted to try. My hope was to take a picture of her holding up her graduation portrait from nursing school. Liz was always a good sport. No trip to the cottage has been the same since she moved away. She has since passed away.

These portraits were included in the “Essence of” series to highlight an entire group collectively. These women are the best of the best around us. I have always been profoundly grateful and have a special admiration for those in the nursing profession. Having received their care more times than I would like to admit, I can attest that each nurse who attended to me was truly exceptional. They witness us at our most vulnerable and offer their care with compassion, unwavering dedication, and kindness.

Lost in Transition…

The impact of COVID-19 has been profound, altering many aspects of our lives. For example, the graduates from the Class of 1970A, Hamilton Civic Hospitals School of Nursing celebrated their 50th anniversary on their 53rd anniversary, as the pandemic prevented such celebrations. The event was held at the Hilton Garden Inn on Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Thanks to my sister-in-law Karen Sakala and friend Pat Hall, I enjoyed implementing this idea with many of these graduating class members. It was a true joy to meet them and capture my concept through a significant number of portraits. These pictures were taken in July 2023 but were lost when I transitioned from one website to the other. Here are those lost images.
